(London, UK) – Not a mixture you’d usually expect, perhaps? Well prepare to have your expectations confounded, as dope deep house label Buzzin’ Fly invite the Kompakt crew from Cologne over to The End for their last party at the venue, on Saturday 20th December. Ben Watt leads the charge alongside labelmate Justin Martin and B’Fly London resident Chris Woodward. Meanwhile Justus Köhncke and Popnoname from Kompakt host the Lounge and Bushwacka! gets away from Layo for a night over in AKA.
With deep house all the rage right now, it must feel pretty sweet to be involved with a label like Buzzin’ Fly, who never stopped making house music with melody, even when they were exploring more stripped-down flavours. That combination has always been the soundtrack of their parties at The End, so with this last bash we shouldn’t expect anything different from B’Fly boss Ben Watt. But when Justin Martin’s on the case there’s always room for something new, as his recent mix for the label Chaos Restored 2 showed. We predict dance-floor scenes of the messiest order – especially if he drops his fierce 12” My Angelic Demons!
Over in the Lounge, the Kompakt crew get comfortable, with old master Justus Köhncke (check out tracks like 2 After 909 or Time Code) busting out the disco-inflected techno, with just a little electro-pop on top. Kompakt’s always has a playful sensibility to its sound, which explains Justus’ remixes of various artists like Hot Chip and Zero 7, and new act Popnoname too, who play live tonight just as they release their lush-sounding debut album, Surrounded By Weather.
And in AKA, infamous End resident Bushwacka! plays an extended set, alongside Movimento Samba Funk and Rodrigo Lunadelli in support, in what will probably be his last solo set at the club.
